FINDING OUR PAST - New Finds Liaison Officer

HandaxeIn Bedfordshire every year many ancient objects are found by chance.

Most of these discoveries are not recorded, and the information they could give us is lost.

The Portable Antiquities Scheme is designed to encourage the recording of these chance finds by the public.

By recording the finds we can better understand how (and where) our ancestors lived.

Julian WattersWe also help to protect our heritage for our children to enjoy.

Bedford Museum is proud to work in partnership with the new FLO, Bedfordshire County Council, Hertfordshire County Council, Roman Verulamium Museum in St Albans, The British Museum and the Heritage Lottery Fund in this exciting project.

Julian Watters (the FLO) will be available at Bedford Museum every alternate Friday from February 13th 2004, and everyone is encouraged to bring their finds along for identification and recording.

On Saturday 7th February, starting at 2pm in Kempston Town Hall, there will be a roadshow to kick off the project in Bedford.

Why not bring along your treasures and help get the project off to a great start!

Julian Watters can be contacted on 01727 751826
