Cecil Higgins Art
Gallery - closure from 18 June 07 during refurbishment
Refurbishment
works to Bedford Gallery include connections through to the Cecil Higgins Art
Gallery. The Art Gallery collections will need protection from dust, vibration
and other disturbance during the works.
This unfortunately means that the Cecil Higgins Art Gallery will close from
Monday 18 June at the end of the current exhibition Blake to Sutherland - the
Romantic Tradition. Works to Bedford Gallery start in July and are due to be
completed by April 2008 with opening to the public soon after.
The refurbishment of Bedford Gallery is the first phase of planned total refurbishment
of Art Gallery and Museum facilities. The proposals and future phasing options
are being considered and are anticipated later this year. The Council remains
committed to the refurbishment of the Art Gallery and Museum and has identified
the project as a priority in its new Corporate Plan 2007-2009. The Cecil Higgins
Art Gallery is due to reopen in 2009.
Meanwhile, Bedford Museum will remain open and a joint programme of activities
will take place.
