Book of medicinal remedies
Have
you started the New Year feeling a bit under the weather and vowing to get healthy?
If so this may be just what is needed to help you on your way! It is a
book of medicinal remedies published in 1760.
For thousands of years, man has used a wide variety of substances to alleviate
pain, fight disease, and improve health. In the 1700s many people could not afford
the fees charged by doctors and would often treat illnesses themselves. As this
book shows, some of the remedies were rather weird by today’s standards. Many
of them were also often ineffective, dangerous and potentially lethal. For example,
one of the cures for vomiting was to drink a glass of water infused with Quicksilver.
Another name for this is Mercury and it is now known to be extremely harmful!
